Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KOs) is returning to Showtime, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Cotto will challenge WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KOs) on December 1st at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Cotto-Trout will be a not be a pay-per-view event and some heavy promotion is certainly in store. Golden Boy will co-promote the event with Cotto Promotions, who have the promotional lead. Cotto returns for the first time since the May decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Certain details of the Cotto-Trout card are possibly going to be revealed at the post-fight press conference to Showtime's quadrupleheader, taking place later tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Cotto will be sitting ringside at the MGM. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will defend his WBC junior middleweight title against Josesito Lopez in the main event. With Cotto heading to Showtime in December, and Canelo fighting on the network later tonight, one would have to believe that Showtime is in the driver's seat to land a potential Cotto-Canelo showdown in 2013.

"It looks like it's going to be Showtime [for Cotto-Trout]. We are going to reveal [the details of the promotion] once we do the press conference. It could be after the fight, because Miguel is going to be here and he is going to address the media. So you can listen to him tonight after the fight," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
