Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30KOs) received some bad news before Saturday's return against Delvin Rodriguez in Orlando, Florida. A court ruling has denied his appeal of an October 2012 decision which orders him to pay $2 million dollars to his uncle and former trainer Evangelista Cotto.

In 2009, Evangelista attacked Miguel during a training dispute. The altercation was violent and Evangelista was later taken to the hospital with injuries. Evangelista, after he was officially fired, filed a lawsuit in Caguas and claimed that he was owed money from Miguel's fights.

Gabriel Peñagarícano, Cotto's legal adviser, appealed the ruling.

Now that Cotto's appeal was denied, his legal team still has the option - within 30 days - to pursue one final legal manuever to reverse last year's order. While all of this is going on, the interest is building on the $2 million.
