Welterweight contender Conor Benn, 26-years-old, will have another legal fight on his hands, as UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed a recent decision to lift Benn's suspension from boxing.

In 2022, Benn tested positive for the banned drug clomifene in two separate drug tests.

Both tests were administered by VADA. The second positive test played a role in derailing Benn's scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr. last October. The event was canceled during fight week, when news first broke that Benn had tested positive for a banned substance.

In March, UK Anti-Doping would provisionally suspend Benn.

However, the independent National Anti-Doping Panel lifted his suspension after a hearing.

The big issue at hand is jurisdiction.

Benn, who last year gave up his boxing license with the BBBofC, argued through his legal team that UKAD had no jurisdiction to punish him - because his adverse tests were administered by VADA. But, VADA is an independent reporting agency and does not punish boxers.

He was prevented from fighting in the UK until going through an investigation with UKAD.

Benn also underwent an investigation with the WBC. The sanctioning body said it did not believe Benn was guilty of "intentional doping" and felt that a "highly elevated consumption of eggs" could have caused a positive test. The unbeaten boxer would later state that eggs were never offered as a defense by his team.

Benn is "disappointed" that another legal fight is coming.

"I'm disappointed at the news of an appeal being made, having already been cleared by both the WBC and National Anti-Doping Panel to continue my career without restriction. I am innocent. Nothing has changed and I remain confident in my position," Benn said.

UKAD issued a statement to confirm the appeal process.

"UK Anti-Doping can today confirm that it has filed an appeal in respect of a decision handed down by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel regarding anti-doping proceedings brought by UKAD against Mr Conor Benn. As confirmed previously in UKAD's statement on 28 July 2023, Mr Benn is no longer subject to a provisional suspension."
