Chudinov vs. Maderna Headlines Red Square Boxing

By Alexey Sukachev

The Russian Boxing Federation and their partners at the Patriot Boxing Promotions announced the annual edition of the International Boxing Day, a specific date, designated by the Federation to commemorate the pride of both amateur boxing and prizefighting. Officially the date is July 22 but, as it comes on Monday, festivities will take no less than two days, starting from July 21.

While the pinpoint of the schedule is a training session at the Red Square, pre-planned for the Sunday (3:30 PM LT), which is aimed to break a record for the most participants taking part in it, a real combat will start a day after when prizefighters will star in at the very same legendary venue.

A familiar name will headline the event, as former WBA super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (20-2, 14 KOs) is aimed to continue his comeback against 2008 Argentinean Olympian Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna (26-5, 16 KOs). The WBA Continental super middleweight title will be at stake in this collision.

Ranked #3 by the WBA and #6 by both WBC and IBF Chudinov is 2-0, 2 KOs, in 2019 with stoppage wins over Rafael Bejaran and Wuzhati Neurlang. He is also 6-0, 4 KOs, since losing back-to-back fights to Felix Sturm and George Groves. Maderna is best known for his close losses to Edwin Rodriguez and Thomas Oosthuizen as well as a stoppage loss to Artur Beterbiev and his most recent to Jose Uzcategui.

Two local encounters will electrify the crowd before the main event. WBA #6 middleweight Magomed Madiev (12-0-1, 4 KOs) will look to add his WBA Asia title to presently vacant Russian national title in a clash against Evgeny Terentiev (14-1, 7 KOs), who has recently outpointed 15-0 Artur Osipov.

Also, infrequently but effectively fighting Islam “The Sniper” Edisultanov (8-0, 5 KOs) will take on experienced Russia-based Armenian stylist Vaginak Tamrazyan (16-4, 5 KOs) over ten rounds.

Several prospects will round up the card, which include heavyweight Shigabudin Aliev (7-0, 5 KOs) and Magomedmurad Arslanbekov (1-0, 1 KO), as well as light welterweight Fedor Glazkov (3-0-1, 2 KOs) and light middleweight Shakhhabas Makhmudov (5-0, 5 KOs). Aliev is listed fighting cagey American veteran Kevin Johnson (34-13-1, 18 KOs) at BoxRec, although this fight hasn’t been officially announced.

The show starts at 4 PM LT on Monday, July 22.
