Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis saw his planned 2020 breakout campaign come to an unfortunate close. A clash of heads left South Africa’s Chris van Heerden with a massive cut atop his forehead, forcing an anti-climactic ending to their Showtime-televised chief support Saturday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
It wasn’t easy, but Chris Van Heerden finally came to the conclusion, like so many did, that 2020 was going to be a wash for his career, a lost year that hopefully led to something bigger and better in 2021. Even normal would be all right for the South Africa native, who gave up so much to chase a dream in the United States back in 2013.
Chris van Heerden is well aware of the perception heading into this weekend. The next assignment for the 33-year old southpaw comes on short notice against one of the hottest rising contenders in Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (26-0, 24KOs). The two meet this Saturday as part of a Showtime-televised tripleheader, live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Jaron Ennis had never even heard of Chris van Heerden before the South African southpaw was secured as Thomas Dulorme’s replacement 2½ weeks ago. “I don’t really focus on these other boxers,” Ennis told BoxingScene.com. “I just try to focus on myself and stay in my own lane, and figure out ways I can better myself and not be the same way when I fight.”
Jaron Ennis is considered one of boxing’s hottest prospects. A consistent feature on Showtime Boxing over the past 2 years, establishing himself as one of the most entertaining and talented prospects in the United States whilst also gaining a cult following of boxing’s purists, who have been dazzled by the skill set of the Philadelphia native.

Three positive COVID tests later, the final Showtime boxing telecast of 2020 finds a way to move forward. The final weigh-in of the year ends on a high note, as all participants made weight for Saturday’s televised tripleheader airing live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.. The makeshift main even pits unbeaten Reymart Gaballo and former bantamweight titlist Emmanuel Rodriguez in a 12-round interim title fight.
Exciting unbeaten welterweight Jaron "Boots" Ennis will look to continue his 16-fight knockout streak when he faces veteran Chris van Heerden in the 12-round co-main event live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) Saturday, December 19 from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
