Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will require at least three weeks of rest after it was revealed that he suffered a hairline fracture on the knuckle of the index finger on the left hand, which happened during Saturday's ten round decision win over Marco Reyes in El Paso, Texas.
Chavez Jr. saw a doctor on Monday to find out the severity of the injury. Chavez felt that he hurt the hand in the fourth round.
The Mexican fighter would like to return on a date in October or November. He says several opponents have been discussed, including former champion Lucian Bute, who returns to the ring after a long layoff on August 15th against Andrea Di Luisa.
"I went to the doctor on Monday. He took X-rays, there was a fracture at the knuckle. I was told not to worry," Chavez Jr. said to ESPN Deportes. "I need to be active. When I do not fight is when I have more problems, so I think I can go back in October. We talked about a couple of names, including Lucian Bute, but first I have to take care of my hand."
