Former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been out of the ring since May 2017, when he was dominated over twelve rounds by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The target opponent is fellow Mexican, Alfredo Angulo (24-7, 20 KOs) - who himself has been pushing for the contest Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) since the fall of last year.

Alfredo has had some inactive issues of his own.

Two fights back he lost an upset decision to Freddy Hernandez in August 2016. Some experts even thought he was retired, but the Mexican fighter has continued to stay in the gym and kept in shape.

He came back in April and lost an eight round split decision to former champion Sergio Mora in Las Vegas.

Angulo expected to fight Chavez Jr. back in January and complained in the press that he was being strung along with the bout continuously being pushed back by Chavez Jr.

Chavez Jr. wants to prove that he can still become a world champion. And he admits that it's been hard for him to stay disciplined in camp.

"I have the opportunity and I do not want to waste it and I do not want to fail myself. It's time and I have a fight on December 1 with 'Perro' Angulo. He's a tough opponent. At the moment he's not at his best, but I know he will go with everything to beat me. Unfortunately he will have to fight with a very focused Julio. I will fight again after a year and a half because I decided that I am going to be the best," Chavez Jr. said.

"I've been training hard, feeling really excited, I feel good, I've had a hard time disciplining myself, doing things the way I did a long time ago, sometimes I get a little discouraged, a lot of people say that 'it's going to be the same, we know the story. ' A lot of people lose trust. It is very difficult, I do not like to be on a diet, I do not like to sleep early, I do not like to behave myself..... I like the things that everyone else likes."
