Court documents reveal former champion Newcastle boxer Chad Bennett allegedly grabbed his partner by the throat in a violent attack at their home.
Also known as 'Hollywood', Bennett is accused of domestic violence related common assault on his partner of three years.
Documents tendered in Newcastle Local Court to support an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) reveal Bennett allegedly verbally and physically assaulted Megan Beukers last month after returning from a night of drinking.
He is accused of grabbing Ms Beukers by the throat and pushing her across the room, threatening that he could "smash her".
The couple allegedly argued about finances after Ms Beuker froze her savings to stop Bennett using $50,000 to enter a fight.
The 42-year-old is on conditional bail which states he cannot approach Ms Beuker within 12 hours of consuming alcohol or drugs.
He will face a hearing in August.
