Italian promotional firm OPI 2000 have added two new fighters to their stable, by completing deals to pick up super middleweight Hadillah Mohoumadi (19-3-1) and heavyweight contender Carlos Takam (32-2-1). Mohoumadi holds the EBU title and will make a voluntary defense on October 15 against an opponent to be announced with OPI 2000 promoting.
French super lightweight champion Franck Petitjean (14-4-2) defends the title against Christopher Sebire (23-9) at the Classic Cirque d´Hiver in Paris on June 13. This fight tops a big show promoted by Malamine Kone, a former boxer and now a successful entrepeneur who is the man behind the sports brand Airness and now returns to boxing.
By Cliff Rold - When a supreme boxer puts on a clinic, fans can appreciate it. At the end of twelve masterful rounds, they may stand and cheer and clap and holler. Very rarely will a scientific dissection have people standing on their chairs, mouths agape, emitting sounds of awe they didn’t know they could muster. That reaction is reserved for the knockout. No matter how refined the taste, it is the knockout that remains boxing’s biggest draw. People who score more of them have a faster ride to the top. Knockouts put butts in the seats. Announcers introduce a fighter by telling the viewing audience how many wins, losses, and draws a fighter has picked up. Saved for last is the knockout. The number of unanimous decisions a fighter has collected? Have to look that one up. No one delivers the knockouts like the Heavyweights and this year the big boys came through with some finishing gems. None impressed us here more than a left hand bomb in October.
2004 Olympic gold medal Alexander Povetkin continues to rebuild his career in style. Two fights removed from a decision loss to heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko, Povetkin stopped the usually durable Manuel Charr early this year and on Saturday night he knocked out Carlos Takam with a single punch to capture the WBC silver title in Moscow Russia. The fight was even after eight rounds, but Povetkin changed everything with a huge ninth - where he dropped Takam hard with a series of shots. Takam never recovered and was knocked out cold in the tenth.
The recent events, promoted by “World of Boxing”, a new stalwart of Russian boxing community, were marked with major fights packed in with few mediocre undercard contests, which could barely bring any attention of casual fans as well as some hardcore junkies either (due to an average mix of styles in some of them). The same cannot be said of an upcoming showdown, which will feature no less than nine scheduled, more or less well-matched clashes with a great main event and a series of meaningful collisions.
For all those years, when Alexander Povetkin was on the verge of fighting Wladimir Klitschko for the ultimate heavyweight supremacy, skeptics – as always, numbered in throngs – have doubted his character, mental power and willingness to fight the king of the division, often claiming that Povetkin was too afraid of a stature and power of the Ukrainian. Even after his spirited, if successful, showing against the champion, Povetkin hasn’t been praised for his mental toughness – and rightfully so, as he lost the fight with a record 15-point margin, which cannot be an indication of anything but the total domination of Klitschko.

Povetkin (27-1, 19KOs) tipped the scales at 229.7 lb, five pounds heavier than his weight for his last fight in May—a 7th round knockout of Manuel Charr, who appears on the undercard. Takam (30-1-1, 23KOs) weighed 252 lb., a few pounds lighter than his pair of breakthrough performances earlier this year, a 10-round draw versus then-unbeaten Mike Perez and most recently a 12-round decision over longtime top contender Tony Thompson. The winner will gain recognition as the WBC Silver heavyweight champion.

Former WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (27-1, 19 KOs) was recently removed from the WBA's rankings, but for the Russian boxer's camp that is not a problem. Povetkin had the opportunity to fight for the interim-WBA title against Luis Ortiz, but decided to fight for the WBC international championship with Manuel Charr, whom he knocked out in the seventh. According to promoter Andrei Ryabinsky, their sole goal is to get a crack at the WBC belt. The title is currently held by Bermane Stiverne and he needs to face mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder.
