Carl Frampton: record, next fight and profile →
Carl Frampton insists he will return to the ring this summer -- despite plans being disrupted by a court date postponement. The 32-year-old had initially hoped to get his upcoming case against Cyclone Promotions and the McGuigans out of the way in May before then fighting in July or August.
Former two division world champion Carl Frampton is still itching for a trilogy fight with Leo Santa Cruz, who holds the WBA featherweight crown. But Frampton complains that Santa Cruz refuses to meet him for a third time. Frampton handed Santa Cruz the first loss of his career with a close majority twelve round decision back in 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Oscar Valdez, the featherweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), has called for more renowned opponents with the desire to unify his crown. Five defenses of the title are in the books, but beyond the number, for Valdez, is to face opponents of renown, because even though he has asked for them, for different reasons the fights have not materialized.
CARL FRAMPTON IS now ideally positioned for his next tilt at becoming a world champion again following our collaboration with Top Rank for the promotion of his future fights. Coming off the back of an unsuccessful shot at the IBF featherweight title held by Josh Warrington, the likelihood is that Carl would’ve had to travel in order to challenge the likes of WBO champion Oscar Valdez in any case.
Josh Warrington would welcome a rematch with Carl Frampton but only if the Northern Irishman won a world featherweight title. Warrington capped a breakout year by following up his surprise victory over Lee Selby last May, when he wrenched the IBF crown from the Welshman, by outpointing Frampton in December to retain his belt in another upset.
Carl Frampton has heaped praise on MTK Global after securing a colossal deal with US boxing giants Top Rank and ESPN. Belfast’s two-weight world champion (26-2-KO15) was in New York to watch MTK Global team-mate Michael Conlan beat Ruben Garcia Hernandez on St Patrick’s Day as news broke.
Former two-division world champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions have signed a multi-fight promotional pact with Top Rank in what is the latest collaboration between Top Rank, MTK Global and Queensberry Promotions.
Several of Tyson Fury’s friends are expected to follow the huge heavyweight’s lead by signing co-promotional agreements with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. Multiple sources have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that former WBO middleweight champ Billy Joe Saunders, IBF featherweight champ Josh Warrington and former super bantamweight and featherweight champ Carl Frampton will join Top Rank’s stable soon. Like Fury, Saunders, Warrington and Frampton also are promoted by Frank Warren.
Featherweight contender Shakur Stevenson (10-0, 6 KOs) would like to fight for a world title in about four fights. Back in January, the Olympic silver medal winner scored a fourth round knockout over Jessie Rosales.
Former two division world champion Carl Frampton was very serious when he made his intentions known of requiring a big fight for his next ring appearance. During the debut episode of TKO, a new boxing podcast hosted by Frampton and Chris Lloyd, the boxer revealed that his team has been discussing the possibility of a trilogy fight with WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz and a showdown with WBO champion Oscar Valdez.
