Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is very satisfied with his 2014, where he headlined two Showtime Pay-Per-View events. In March he stopped Alfredo Angulo with a one sided beating. And then came back in July to win a close twelve round decision over WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara.

"I am very happy with the two fights I had. I gained a lot of experience in facing two very different styles and I feel great because [I'm recovering from the] problem with my ankle. Now I'm on to my best year. We try to always make the best fights, the ones the people like and that's what we want for next year," Canelo said.

Canelo is targeting a return on May 2nd, Cinco De Mayo weekend, and hopes to get WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in the ring.

"It's very important to have the support of Oscar De La Hoya. I want to fight in May and I'm going to do it. It's a very important date for me and I will not move from it. I want to retake the Mexican dates because they are very important to us. I'm going to fight in May and September. I'm ready to test myself against Cotto, but he's not the only option," Canelo added.

"I do not want to send any message to Cotto. I usually do not [send messages]. A negotiation is not done [through print]. It will be a very important fight and that is what people want to see. It will probably be at 155 pounds, because that is what Cotto's people have asked for but I am completely ready."
