It looks like former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) will be finishing up his preparation for his forthcoming bout against Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) out of the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada. The news came courtesy of welterweight prospect Chase “Checkmate” Corbin shortly after he finished sparring six rounds with the Mexican star. Corbin has been a fixture around the Las Vegas scene in recent years after relocating from Philadelphia in late 2009. Working under the guidance of trainer Jeff Mayweather, Corbin (8-0, 7 KO’s) is a lanky boxer-puncher who has been involved in some memorable gym battles at the Mayweather Boxing Club and other locales in the city.

Chavez Says Vera Impressed Him in Sparring Session
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. speaks from experience when he says he expects a very difficult fight against Bryan Vera. Chavez (46-1-1, 32 KOs, 1 NC) and Vera (23-6, 14 KOs) sparred against each other nearly three years ago, before Chavez went on to win the WBC middleweight title from Germany’s Sebastian Zbik in June 2011. Those rough rounds remind Chavez that he’ll encounter a determined opponent who knows full well he can change his life by upsetting the son of Mexico’s most beloved boxer when they square off Sept. 28 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Arreola Will Consider Retirement if Mitchell Wins
Chris Arreola made changes to his training camp for his September 7th fight against Seth Mitchell that will be televised by Showtime. Arreola normally trains at home in Southern California but decided to get away from the distractions of home and train for this fight in Arizona. The 32-year-old Mexican American spoke to us on BoxingScene Radio about his decision to move his camp. "I went to Arizona because I can't trust myself. I can't put the blame on anyone else. I could always find a reason not to go to the gym. I could stop and see an oil change place and say hey I need an oil change and stay there," Arreola half jokingly stating while saying he isn't a fan of the desert. "I hate the heat. The heat is hotter than shit but I love boxing so I need to do it."
