Former four division world champion Adrien Broner is very pleased with the recent turn of events.
On Sunday, it was revealed that his scheduled opponent Omar Figueroa had withdrawn from their Showtime televised main event, which is set to take place on April 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
After Figueroa fell out, former two division world champion Jessie Vargas was eager to take his place.
The contest will take place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds.
Vargas' only two career defeats came at the hands of Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, and he holds a knockout win over current WBO 154-pound champion Sadam Ali.
Broner's three career defeats came at the hands of Marcos Maidana, Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia.
Both fighters have been down, neither fighter has been stopped.
Broner (33-3, 24 KOs) has won championships at 126, 130, 135 and 140 pounds. He's been out of the ring since losing a unanimous decision to Mikey Garcia on July 29 at Barclays Center. Vargas captured world title at 140 and 147.
"I'm feeling really good and I'm excited that this is an even bigger fight than Figueroa," said Broner. "I had to switch up some sparring partners but everything is going great in camp. We're fighting at 144 pounds, so he'll have a slight weight advantage, but it won't matter. I'm going to be in great shape for this fight."
Broner switched things up for this fight, and brought in no-nonsense trainer Kevin Cunningham - who guided fighters such as Cory Spinks and Devon Alexander to multiple world titles.
"Coach Kevin Cunningham is my head coach for this camp, but I did not fire Mike Stafford. I just added to my camp, because I needed the help. I know what I have to do at the end of the day to get back on top where I belong," Broner said.
