An article on recently ran WBC-interim champion Sebastian “The Towering Infero” Fundora (20-0-1) would return to the ring in April 8th against Brian Mendoza (21-2). The fight will take place at Dignity Health Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

The Showtime triple-header will also include Radzhab Butaev against Egidijus Kavaliauskas and fast rising super lightweight Brandun Lee taking in an opponent to be named in the near future.

Mendoza, who like Fundora fights under the PBC banner, was last in action in November when he scored a major upset over former unified champion Jeison Rosario. He took the fight in 10 days notice and stopped the Dominican in 5 rounds after sending him to the canvas twice.

He expects to keep the momentum going against the 6’6” southpaw who is based in Southern California.

“Finally getting to fight for a world title is incredible but the job is not done. I’m not satisfied just getting a title shot.  I’m going in there fully prepared to have my hand raised at the end of the night,” Mendoza told

The 29-year-old Mendoza isn’t fazed by Fundora’s height and reach advantage. In fact, he believes it will give him more opportunities to land  on the inside and plans on taking advantage of the holes in his opponents defense.

“Fighting someone tall isn’t something new to me. Sure this guy is taller than normal but I’ve always sparred guys above my weight class as well as had fights against taller opponents and I feel I have the experience to do what I have to do to get the victory,” said Mendoza.

“Anything he leaves open is the target. He’s too lanky to cover everything so I’ll constantly be looking for those open spots.”
