The WBO became the third sanctioning body to rank Brandon Figueroa as its No. 1 featherweight, releasing its monthly ratings update on Thursday.

In the WBC's latest featherweight rankings, Brandon Figueroa, 26-2-1 (19 KOs), is now rated first, Mikito Nakano, 14-0 (13 KO), is second, and Nathaniel Collins, 17-0-1 (8 KOs), is third.

Nick Ball won the title in June 2024 and has made three defenses since, but none has come against a mandatory challenger. Figueroa won an elimination bout in July.

Mirco Cuello’s interim WBA title win last month over Sergio Rios last month had a cascading effect on the sanctioning body’s featherweight rankings.

Neither Isaac Cruz nor Brandon Figueroa was at his most devastating Saturday in Las Vegas, but both walked away with separate unanimous decision victories.

Saturday’s pay-per-view opener between recently beaten former two-division champion Brandon Figueroa and three-time featherweight title challenger Joet Gonzalez was crafted as if the matchmakers had marching orders to fit the catchphrase, “Desperate times, desperate measures.”

Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa has paired up with trainer Manny Robles ahead of his July 19 bout with Joet Gonzalez.
