Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez are moments away from hitting the scales for their welterweight battle Saturday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marquez attempts to become the first Mexican fighter in boxing history to win belts in five separate weight classes. The future Hall of Famer hasn't fought since his epic 6th round knockout of Pacquiao in their fourth meeting last December, which earned Fight of the Year honors in many circles. Bradley makes the second defense of the alphabet title he acquired in a controversial decision over Manny Pacquiao last June. His lone defense is this year's leading contender for Fight of the Year, peeling himself off of the canvas to eke out a well-earned points win over Ruslan Provodnikov this past March. The welterweight battle headlines a four-fight pay-per-view card (Saturday, HBO PPV, 9PM ET).

El Paso County Coliseum, El Paso, Texas - Welterweight contender Brad Solomon (19-0, 7KOs) was dropped twice in the first round and the fight appeared to be on the verge of being stopped, but he survived, regrouped and fought a war with hard-puncher Yoryi Estrella (10-9-2, 7KOs) to win an eight round majority decision.

Home Depot Center - In a featherweight contest, prospect Victor Pasillas (2-0, 1KOs) stopped Jesus Adame (2-10, 0K) in the third round of action. Adame went down in the second round and was taking a beating when the fight was stopped at 2:35 in the third.

Welterweight contender Brad Solomon (17-0, 7KOs) is ready to get back in the mix. Solomon, inactive since winning a ten round decision over Demetrius Hopkins last March, has signed a contract with influential manager James Prince.

The World Boxing Association has ordered mandatory purse bids for two title fights. The first, featherweight champion Rico Ramos will defend his belt against mandatory challenger and interim-king Guillermo Rigondeaux. In the second fight, welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko has to face international champion Brad Solomon.

By Cliff Rold - Extending his unbeaten to ledger to seventeen contests, 27-year old Brad Solomon (17-0, 7 KO) of Lafayette, Louisiana, used an awkward attack, strong infighting, and obvious desire to score a decisive ten-round unanimous decision over the 30-year old nephew of the great Bernard Hopkins, Demetrius Hopkins (30-2-1, 11 KO) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Café in Hollywood, Florida. Hopkins initially missed the Welterweight limit for the fight before scaling at 147. Solomon came in under the limit at a cut 145 ½. The referee was Tommy Kimmons. Hopkins began the first illustrating his greater professional experience, focused and steady where Solomon fought on edge, tense. Those nerves meant Solomon was leading, his left jab snaking and a wide right catching Hopkins at mid-ring just inside the halfway mark. Hopkins just missed with a couple of one-twos in the closing seconds.

Snoozefest. Demetrius Hopkins averaged 41 punches thrown per round, landing 9 per round. Brad Solomon landed 12 per round, throwing 44 per round. The welterweight average is 58 punches thrown per round, 19 landed. Solomon had a 109-61 edge in power shots landed

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida, super bantamweight contender Yan Barthelemy (12-2, 4KOs) dominated Francis Ruiz (9-5, 4KOs) over ten rounds of action. In the third round, Ruiz was badly hurt by a right hook and went down. He was able to survive until the bell and Barthelemy controlled the action the rest of the way. The scores were 98-91, 97-92 and 100-89. Kendall Holt in December 2008.
