Canelo Lawsuit Versus Golden Boy Promotions DAZN Dismissed in Current Form; Has Deadline To Amend

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has his work cut out for him in the courtroom. The first round of Alvarez’s recently filed lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions, company founder and chairman Oscar de la Hoya and sports streaming service DAZN was dismissed by the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California on Friday. The case was rejected on the grounds in which Alvarez’s attorneys named the multiple defendants.

Yordenis Ugas didn’t get much help from the three judges in his latest victory in the ring, though he did his part to deliver a much-needed win for the Fox Sports family. A special Sunday evening edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Fox averaged 1,019,000 viewers over the course of the 156-minute telecast, according to Nielsen Media Research. The show was headlined by Ugas’ strangely-scored split decision win over Abel Ramos in their secondary welterweight title fight, which peaked at 1,260,000 viewers at the 10:00-10:15pm ET block, towards the end of the 12-round main event.

Nielsen Media Research reported Tuesday that the main event of that telecast – Erislandy Lara’s relatively easy, 12-round victory over huge underdog Greg Vendetti – averaged 1,042,000 viewers and attracted a peak audience of 1,067,000. FOX’s main event August 22 – Shawn Porter’s lopsided points defeat of Sebastian Formella in a 12-rounder – was watched by an average audience of 1,077,000 and drew a peak viewership of 1,225,000.

FOX’s viewership of its main event Saturday night was almost identical to the totals from the network’s previous boxing broadcast. Nielsen Media Research revealed Tuesday that FOX’s main event Saturday night, Shawn Porter-Sebastian Formella, drew a peak audience of 1,225,000 and an average audience of 1,077,000. FOX’s prior main event, Jamal James-Thomas Dulorme on August 8, was watched by a peak audience of 1,224,000 and drew an average viewership of 1,076,000.
