Blake Caparello: record, next fight and profile →
Lou DiBella, who promotes Blake Caparello, knows that his boxer is in for a tough fight against Sergey Kovalev, the light heavyweight titleholder who has scored knockouts in 22 of his 24 victories. “In terms of knockout power and ruggedness, he’s [Kovalev’s] right there with anybody I’ve ever seen. He’s an incredibly strong guy. Tremendous puncher. He’s a dangerous guy,” DiBella said. But…
There was a game plan in place for Sergey Kovalev when 2014 began. Win a tune-up fight, and then roll on to a highly anticipated showdown with lineal light heavyweight king Adonis Stevenson. Those plans were shot to sunshine when Stevenson decided to team up with Al Haymon, and head across the street from HBO to Showtime. Kovalev’s promoter, Main Events hasn’t taken kindly to the news as a lawsuit is ongoing with pretty much everyone involved in Stevenson’s career.

Australian light-heavyweight Blake Caparello is under no illusions about the size of his task as he prepares to face the fierce-punching Sergey Kovalev in Atlantic City on August 2. Reigning WBO champion Kovalev has knocked out all but two of his 24 professional victims, including a dizzying fourth-round finish of Nathan Cleverly to claim the title in Cardiff last year. Refreshingly, the also-unbeaten Caparello has acknowledged the extent of the power, which is threatening to make the Russian-born Kovalev one of the new superstars of his sport.
