WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is looking to secure one of two fights in 2020.

He wants to get his hands on WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith, or Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who owns the WBA's "regular" title at 168-pounds.

Last month, Canelo moved up to 175-pounds and knocked out Sergey Kovalev for the WBO's light heavyweight title. But a few days ago, Canelo vacated the belt. He is now expected to compete at the super middleweight limit.

Canelo will return in May, as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend - and Saunders is being pegged as one of the frontrunners to face the Mexican star.

"It's no secret I want the big fights now," Saunders told Sky Sports. "The one that is most talked about and my name is linked to and I would say I'm favourite for is the Canelo fight.

"Hopefully, Eddie (Hearn) can make that and MTK, and get the show on the road. I've left it to my management team MTK. They're very confident along with Eddie that this fight can be made. So for the fans sake and mine, I really hope this fight can be made in the New Year 2020.

"I believe I've got the beating of him but I just want that golden chance."

And Smith is also on the radar of Saunders, who views that bout as the biggest option to be claimed on UK soil.

"I think Callum Smith makes a fantastic fight for the fans. Me and him, both British, it would be so easy to make. None of these big names want to fight me or him, so let's fight each other. It's either Canelo or Callum I want," Saunders said.
