Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (38-2, 26 KOs) is scheduled to snap his layoff on February 8th when he faces Mark DeLuca in Sheffield.

For Brook, it's his first bout since December 2018, when he won a much tougher than expected twelve round decision over Michael Zerafa.

Bellew would like to see Brook finally secure a big fight, at his natural weight.

Brook has not been involved in a key bout since May 2017, when he was stopped by Errol Spence in their mandatory title clash.

One fight Bellew would like to see Brook matched in, is a domestic cracker with former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith.

That contest has been pondered in the past, when the two were under rival promotional roofs - which made a deal more difficult to put together.

But now that clash is very possible, because both fighters are being promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport.

"Kell needs a big fight and it's as simple as that. On his day, he's proven to the world that he's a fighter capable of performing on the highest level, but 2020 has to be about emphasising that fact even more because it's been a long time since he's seen any action," Bellew said.

"I know there's this desire to face Amir Khan because the fight has been mentioned so many times and it's a brilliant domestic clash, but can Kell wait any longer for it? The fight I'd like to see for Kell is Liam Smith at 154lbs. That's a great battle and it's a fight that should open doors for bigger opportunities for the winner."
