Austin Trout: record, next fight and profile →
By Cliff Rold - It was easy to lose sight of it in the excitement of an early knockdown and a devastating finish last December. Two men in the flush of their physical prime, still young and hungry and without miles piled on by time, were putting on quite a sophisticated show. The action in between the most memorable moments of Jermall Charlo’s IBF 154 lb. title defense against Julian Wil...
Hurd vs. Trout Workout Photos Gallery - BROOKLYN – WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara and undefeated contender Terrell Gausha met with the New York media during a fight week open workout on Wednesday at Gleason’s Gym just days before they headline a Premier Boxing Champions event Saturday, Oct. 14 live on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING®.
WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) is hoping to set up a unification encounter this coming Saturday night. Charlo will be in action as part of a Showtime televised junior middleweight tripleheader, where two other world champions will defend their belts. The even takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Jarrett Hurd isn’t particularly pleased with how he fought against Tony Harrison. The result ultimately is what matters, and Hurd stopped Harrison in the ninth round to win the then-vacant IBF junior middleweight title February 25 in Birmingham, Alabama. Hurd understands, though, that some people probably aren’t quite sold on him after his victory over Detroit’s Harrison (24-2, 20 KOs).
Austin Trout has always wanted a chance to avenge his losses to Canelo Alvarez, Erislandy Lara and Jermall Charlo. The former WBA super welterweight champion cannot understand why Miguel Cotto never seemed to feel the same way about his lopsided loss to Trout. Nearly five years have passed since Trout made a name for himself by thoroughly out-boxing Cotto in their 12-round, 154-pound title fight at Madison Square Garden, and a rematch still hasn’t been brought up to Trout.
Austin Trout is confident Jarrett Hurd has never encountered an opponent like him. But Trout, a former champion who has more experience against top competition than Hurd, boxed someone similar to Hurd in just his last fight. Like the 6-feet-1 Hurd, Jermall Charlo was a big, strong opponent that Trout tested in a fight for the IBF junior middleweight championship Hurd has since won. Trout thinks the 6-feet Charlo is a better fighter overall than the undefeated Hurd, who will defend his IBF 154-pound crown against Trout on October 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Showtime).
Austin Trout wasn’t the least bit surprised Gennady Golovkin didn’t get the credit on the scorecards he deserved against Canelo Alvarez. Trout knows all too well what it’s like to box well against Alvarez, only to have one judge score the fight as if it were a blowout. When Alvarez beat Trout in April 2013, judge Stanley Christodoulou scored what was a competitive 12-round bout 118-109 for Alvarez.
Six of the top 154-pound world champions and contenders will look to put on a show for the fans in New York as they prepare to enter the ring for a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader Saturday, October 14 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING®. The Premier Boxing Champions event is headlined by Erislandy "The American Dream" Lara defending against undefeated Terrell Gausha. Coverage on SHOWTIME begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and features hard-hitting unbeaten champion Jermell "Iron Man" Charlo taking on top contender Erickson "Hammer" Lubin and "Swift" Jarrett Hurd making his first title defense against tough former world champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout.
By Thomas Gerbasi - Austin Trout didn’t mind being one of the elder statesmen on the dais during the press conference to announce his Oct. 14 bout with Jarrett Hurd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Among the six junior middleweights in attendance that day, only Erislandy Lara, at 34, was older than the 32-year...
