Arum: Sor Rungvisai vs. Ancajas Unification Will Happen in 2019

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas, says there is a very strong chance that his boxer faces WBC champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in a high-stakes unification in 2019.

Arum feels confident in say that contest “is going to happen.”

As far as the timeline, the date of the fight will land in February or March. The bout land at a venue in the United States, says Arum.

Arum has already discussed the possibility of the contest with Tom Loeffler, who represents Sor Rungvisai in the United States.

“It’s just a matter of knowing the date (and venue),” said Arum to The Manila Bulletin.

Last month, Ancajas and Sor Rungvisai met face to face in Bangkok, in the aftermath of the Thailand star's victory over Iran Diaz of Mexico.

Ancajas was taken to the limit and nearly derailed in his last fight, when he fought to a close draw by Alejandro Santiago of Mexico in September in Oakland.

Ancajas (30-1-2, 20 KOs) has held his last three fights in the United States, all in 2018. He stopped Israel Gonzalez in February, and then won a twelve round unanimous decision over countryman Jonas Sultan in May.

Sor Rungvisai (47-4-1, 41 KOs) also had three fights in the United States. He won a very exciting fight over Juan Francisco Estrada, with a twelve round majority decision in Los Angeles.

After having three bouts in a row on American soil, his last two bouts took place in Thailand, with a TKO victory in one round over Young Gil Bae.
