The future looks bright for Manny Pacquiao protege Jerwin Ancajas, who makes his US debut on February 3rd.

Bob Arum's latest signing has made three defences of his IBF world super flyweight crown and now faces 20-1 Mexican Israel Gonzalez in Texas, co-headlining with Gilberto Ramirez.

Pacquiao promotes the Filipino talent alongside Arum. Speaking on the Top Rank website, he described Ancajas as "an exciting fighter who has not reached his full potential".

Ancajas appeared on the Pacquiao v Jeff Horn undercard last summer, crushing Teiru Kinoshita in the Brisbane sunshine.

Last November, 'Pretty Boy' then announced himself to UK fight fans when stopping brave challenger Jamie Conlan in six rounds in Belfast.

"I am pleased to announce that we will have the opportunity to get worldwide exposure through his upcoming fights being televised on ESPN, with the help of the legendary Bob Arum and Top Rank," added Pacquiao.

"We, at MP Promotions, feel that this opportunity will open the floodgates for Jerwin to reach his full potential and continue to bring great honor to the Philippines."

Ancajas (28-1-1, 19 KOs) is already used to the comparisons to his hero: "I look forward to following in the footsteps of my idol and promoter Manny Pacquiao. I want to be a champion for a long time."

Arum believes the comparisons are justified and is excited about what the future holds. "I have had the opportunity to be ringside for Jerwin’s fights in Australia and in Macau and I see a lot of similarities to his co-promoter Manny Pacquiao.

"Jerwin has a killer instinct inside the ring and he is a great finisher. Just look at his record. Jerwin has only gone the distance once in his last 14 fights," said the 86-year-old.
