Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, strongly believes that a rematch with WBC world champion Deontay Wilder will generate similar financial figures to the 2015 showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao generated 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and over $410 million in revenue. The contest overall generated well over half a billion in revenue.

Wilder and Fury fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in December 2018.

Now a rematch is being targeted for the early part of 2020.

“Having these two guys, I really believe that when they fight each other, the fight should do somewhat near the equivalent of Mayweather-Pacquiao, because they were great attractions, but Mayweather and Pacquiao were little guys. I mean, you’re taller and bigger than either of those guys were at the time," Arum told Michael Woods on the Everlast “Talkbox” podcast.

"But Tyson Fury and Wilder are bigger than life, they’re big, big men..and people who watch boxing, particularly the public, they’re unsophisticated, like to think, and that’s why they like heavyweights, ‘Hey, there’s a guy that can go into a bar and beat anyone in the room,’ right? And they couldn’t certainly think that about either Mayweather or Pacquiao, because they were relatively short guys….That’ll help drive it, I think we have chance to do numbers like Mayweather-Pacquiao, and I think the other side has bought into that too.”

But the two fighters have other boxers coming up in the fall.

Wilder will take part in a rematch with Luis Ortiz on a date in September.

And Fury, according to Arum, is possibly going to fight on October 5th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“We’re looking at now October five, the (Madison Square) Garden (in NYC), I think the Garden is trying to clear out a concert and so forth. They’re optimistic that we can open it up Oct. 5. Having had Fury conquer Vegas and show he’s like the equivalent to Elvis…and any other great act that ever hit this town, I think we have to take him to the East…and roll him out so to speak on the big stage at Madison Square Garden,” Arum said.
