LAS VEGAS – Another week, another set of developments indicating Zuffa Boxing’s strengthening position in the sport.
Zuffa Boxing head Dana White said he anticipates adding shows beyond the 12 scheduled for 2026 as clarity came for the more major cards the new promotion will connect to this year – not only in its streaming deal with Paramount+, but Netflix, too.
“There’s a lot going on to rock the industry – new signings, more deals, new territories,” White told reporters at his Zuffa 2 post-fight news conference. “I’m telling you guys by the end of 2026, it’s going to be impressive.”
White’s push occurs while the old promotional guard confronts perilous times.
Top Rank, which has failed to find a new network home since its ESPN deal expired in the summer, was left to stage its Saturday 154lbs unification bout starring 23-year-old Puerto Rican Xander Zayas on a FAST channel.
And as Golden Boy works to extend its deal with DAZN, news came last week that promotion head Oscar De La Hoya is facing foreclosure on his downtown Los Angeles building that houses his headquarters.
“He’s gonna have to … get on OnlyFans and start paying his rent. My boy is running out of money,” White told an interviewer Sunday.
Zuffa, meanwhile, is actively in negotiations with several fighters – some of whom are fleeing the chaos – while firming up plans for cards intending to stamp its first-year growth as a major success.
In addition to being tied to former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s April 11 comeback fight, Zuffa Boxing is aiming to offer the long-awaited Fury versus Anthony Joshua bout later this year with Netflix, BoxingScene has learned.
Beyond that, Zuffa Boxing is planning a major Mexican Independence weekend card in the U.S. to complement Canelo Alvarez’s return earlier that day on a card in Saudi Arabia.
“We have some pretty crazy announcements coming over the next few weeks,” White said during the news conference, when specific dates and cards were not mentioned. “I’m way further in this thing than I anticipated being two shows in.”
Sunday’s Paramount+ card featured the return of former 140lbs champion Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela posting a convincing triumph over Mexican countryman Diego Torres and calling for a showdown with “The Ring” champion Shakur Stevenson – something White confirmed can happen with his new stable that will ultimately present “Zuffa belts” to the best fighters in each division.
“You can have both belts,” he said.
The card also included a riveting rally by Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdvic from two knockdowns by former light-heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk to win by knockout.
And a fight-of-the-night showing by former WBC interim 154lbs champion Serhii Bohachuk.
“Great night, everybody fought their asses off .. we’re putting on shows,” said White, who also serves as UFC CEO/president. “My approach is to build it up from the ground up … I knew what I was getting into. I’ve got a lot on my plate. Now it’s time to eat.”
The action drew former world champions Regis Prograis and Caleb Plant to the Apex, and White said the buzz about what Zuffa is doing is drawing interest from others.
White said he expects to know the March 8 opponent for the cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia this week after recently signing the unbeaten IBF champion.
“We’ve been meeting with and talking to people all week,” he said.
The developments happen while skeptics, including Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn, have chided Zuffa’s soft opening.
White confirmed Hearn called him recently to meet. White didn’t immediately respond.
“It was kind of weird. The guy’s been doing all these nutty interviews, and then he wanted to get together and talk about … I don’t know what,” White said.
It’s not quite that Zuffa is dancing on other promoters’ graves at this hour, but the promotion is off and running as the others are finding their relevance shrinking.
“The team we have built here … they are unbelievable,” White said. “I like killers. I am surrounded by absolute serial killers. And I love it.”
