Bantamweight contender Zhanat Zhakiyanov (25-1) has relinquished his position as official challenger for the vacant EBU title in order to go for a world title. Zhakiyanov is highly ranked by all of the major organizations but which title he has set his sights on has not been announced yet.

The other challenger for the vacant title is Stephane Jamoye (28-6).

The title was left vacant by Lee Haskins, who of course went on to win a world title.
