According to Zanfer Promotions CEO Fernando Beltran, his company could resume their activities in June, if conditions allow, after making the decision to dismiss the shows he had planned for May due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Beltrán stressed that boxers should be asked to be disciplined and try to be ready at all times, because when the activity resumes, there will be opportunities around the world, and only those with greater disposition will be able to take advantage of those doors and windows that will open.
“We had events for March, April, May, June. On March 28 Luis Nery was going to fight, we were already looking for a big fight for Omar 'Pollo' Aguilar, Jaime Munguía was pegged for the co-main of Canelo Álvarez, on May 9 Jackie Nava was against 'Barby' Juárez, in June was (Juan Francisco) 'Gallo' Estrada against (Carlos) Cuadras, also in June (Miguel) Berchelt, probably with (Óscar) Valdez, also Elwin Soto. But, definitely, for the entire month of May our cards are suspended," Beltrán commented to ESPN Deportes.
The Tijuana promoter explained that this current situation will force the industry to give its best.
“The difference will be made by the disciplined athlete, the athlete who stays in shape, the one who has the most aspirations of being someone in life, that will make the difference between champions and athletes. It is worth mentioning the responsibility of each individual," Beltran said.
"The first one who is ready will have more opportunities, we will return strong, I think there will be a lot of strength and union on the part of the promoters, organizations, the media, the entire boxing family, it will be a nice thing to return to see those arenas full. We definitely feel compelled to give people the best."
Noting that it is likely that in June Zanfer will begin to resume everything, he pointed out that little by little boxing will recover the rhythm that it had been showing with great force.
“It is a small delay in the plans, but we are not concerned, the boys must be fit, be responsible. Boxing was going through a great moment, but we will return to normal, logically we feel bad for the casualties we have in the world, we join those who have had the misfortune of having sick family members and hope that the infected recover soon," Beltran said.
