On the undercard to Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones Jr. at New York's Madison Square Garden, Zab Judah (37-6, 25KOs) won an easy ten round decision over unknown Ernest Johnson (18-3, 7KOs). The fight took place at 144-pounds as Judah is in the middle of dropping down to the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds. The scores were 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92.

Judah came slow in the first round. In the second, he began to pick up the pace with hard right hands. During the third, clashes of heads opened up cuts near the right and the left eye of Judah. The cut near the right was deep. Judah began to let his hands go in the sixth, throwing combinations and taunting Johnson. After the sixth, Judah calmed down and outboxed Johnson until the end of the tenth round.
