It’s no surprise that Zab Judah was outside of Barclays Center prior to the weigh-in for the bout between Danny Garcia and Rod Salka. Judah, after all, is a native of Brooklyn, where the arena is located.
But Judah also is lobbying for a rematch with Garcia, who won by unanimous decision in their April 2013 bout.
“The world want to see a Danny Garcia-Zab Judah fight,” Judah told BoxingScene.com.
Judah is coming off a December 2013 decision loss to Paulie Malignaggi. “That wasn’t my night,” Judah says. He wasn’t himself, he said, the result of being sick — his father and trainer, Yoel Judah, has said before that Zab had the flu beforehand. Zab still wants to give Malignaggi credit, but he also wants people to know that his performance in the bout shouldn’t be an indicator that he’s done.
“I still love it. I love boxing with the young guys in the gym. I run hard. I train hard. I train with all young guys. I’m feeling great,” Judah said.
He wants a tune-up bout, then wants another shot at Garcia.
“I had him,” Judah said. “Watch the ending of the fight — 10th, 11th, 12th, you can see the blueprint right there. Picture me doing that from Round 1. … It probably won’t go past four rounds. It won’t.”
Judah’s last win came in March 2012, when he stopped Vernon Paris. His three losses in the past few years have come to Amir Khan in 2011, then to Garcia and Malignaggi. The former 140-pound titleholder and 147-pound champion is 36 years old, turning 37 in October, and is 42-9 with 29 knockouts and 1 no contest.
