Z “The Dream” Gorres underwent major surgery at the Cebu Doctors Hospital Wednesday to correct a portion of his windpipe that had narrowed down and was also infected apparently due to improper handling at the Las Vegas University Medical Center when Gorres underwent emergency brain surgery last November.

However, Dr. Almendras added the surgery was very successful and that the doctors were very happy “because everything went well.”

Dr. Almendras said the surgery done in Las Vegas “was not in the right position and not done properly. That is why he (Gorres) ended up with a narrow windpipe which developed scarring in that area.”

Gorres had to undergo surgery after he found difficulty in breathing and eating and was bothered by a nagging cough.

Dr. Almendras said the narrowing meant they “could hardly pass a tube in it.”

The serious condition of Gorres prevented him from attending the “Philippines vs The World” fight  card at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu last Saturday when three colleagues from the ALA Gym, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista, Milan Melindo and Jimrex Jaca joined former IBF world minimu weight champion Florante Condes in a 4-0 shutout win over their foreign opponents.

Since he had to quit boxing because of brain surgery after a smashing win over menacing-looking Luis Melendez of Colombia, Gorres spent over two months at the Las Vegas hospital before coming home and has been a regular ringside spectator at the fights.
