At the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California, Yusaf Mack (29-3-2, 17KOs)won a twelve round split decision over Otis Griffin (23-7-2, 9KOs) in an IBF light heavyweight eliminator. The scores were 119-108 and 116-111 for Mack, and 114-113 for Griffin. Mack worked much harder in the contest. He caught Griffin with a lot of good punches. Griffin was never in trouble until the final round, when he was dropped from a winding hook.
The fight was not a pretty one to watch. The score of 114-113 for Griffin was a mystery to those at ringside. Mack has now earned the right to challenge IBF champion Tavoris Cloud.
In the co-feature, lightweight Ray Beltran (24-4-, 16KOs) stopped Carlos Viran (10-9-4, 2KOs) in the seventh round to capture the vacant USBA title. Beltran is trained by veteran Freddie Roach.
Heavyweight Andrey Fedosov (22-2, 18KOs) came back with a win. Fedosov lost a split decision to Lance Whitaker last June. He returned with a first round knockout of Byron Polley (24-10).
