Former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16KOs) is learning some new tricks by training with Floyd Mayweather Sr. in Las Vegas. The Olympic gold medal winner has been very inactive over the last few years, only fighting once in 2012 and 2013.
Gamboa won a twelve round decision over Michael Farenas to capture the WBA's interim-super featherweight title in December 2012. He came back in June of this year, now as a lightweight, to beat Darleys Perez for the WBA's interim-lightweight championship.
Mayweather Sr., the father and trainer of pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., is tightening up the defense and offensive combinations of the Cuban boxer. Gamboa leaves himself open quite often when he explodes with combinations, and that flaw has been exposed in a few fights where he was either hurt or knocked down.
