WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa’s plans to get a truly competitive fight for his protégé, the Philippines No. 1 ranked featherweight Michael Farenas after he disposed of two Thai patsies in succession may be finally answered.
Well known boxing manager and former boxer Pino Bahari informed us that world-rated Daud Yordan had signed up with Golden Boy Promotions last September 13 and is, according to him, “not allowed to fight abroad.”
However, Bahari recommended another of his fighters, Yulio Moro who is reported is the Indonesian champion and “ready for a March event in the Philippines .”
Penalosa was hoping that Farenas could fight in March and believes Moro would be a worthy opponent for the hard-hitting southpaw Farenas who scored a third round stoppage of Sunan Thosen, supposedly 13-5 with 4 knockouts, last December 27 at the Mandaluyong Gym.
Farenas who has a record of 24-2-2 with 21 knockouts scored a 2nd round TKO over Arturo Valenzuela in his US debut on October 6, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino and followed this up with a 3rd round TKO over Baudel Cardenas at the same venue. In his last fight in Aguascalientes , Mexico , Farenas scored an eight round unanimous decision over Fermin De Los Santos.
The hard punching Moro has an impressive record of 15 knockouts in 16 wins with 5 losses and is coming offg back-to-back 7th round TKO victories over undefeated Ardi Diego on July 14 and Wellem Reyk on December 1.
