Young Mutley returns to action at The Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre, Nottingham on February the 5th against Michael Frontin and the Prizefighter semi-finalist believes that linking up with Frank Maloney for a three-fight deal is just the tonic his career needs. Mutley told The Express and Star that he is gunning for British light-welterweight title holder Lenny Daws.
“As soon as I have tuned up, I am coming after Lenny Daws and that British title. I would love to take him on, he’s a boxer with a good engine but he isn’t a puncher, where I can bring that to the table,” declared Mutley.
“There is no one in this division that can punch like me, when I get down properly I will be a lot stronger and faster. I feel a lot fitter because of the less weight, so that has got to be good. This fight is the start of something big for me.”
Mutley shot to prominence when decisioning Michael Jennings for the British welterweight title in 2006, Mutley then lost the title to Scotland's Kevin Anderson in the British fight of the year. Mutley's form has dipped since the win over Jennings.
Indeed, Mutley was stopped in three rounds by Mihalta Mutu in October before bouncing back and doing respectably in the Prizefighter tournament, a semi-final loss to Colin Lynes halted Mutley's progress that night. However, the boxer will be kept busy by Maloney and, should he continue to win, opportunity could knock for the popular West Bromwich boxer.
