"Yory Boy" Campas (92-12, 74KOs) continues to march forward with his pro career, in remarkable fashion. On September 13 undercard to Juan Manuel Marquez-Joel Casamayor at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Campas will face puncher Julio "Baby Face" Garcia (41-3, 35KOs).
Campas, at age 37, has been involved in 104 pro bouts. If Garcia returns to his old pace of fighting six or more times per year, he may reach those kind of numbers one day. He already has 44 bouts and he's only 21-years-old. Campas lost two in a row, to Amin Asikainen and Matthew Macklin, and appeared to be done, then returns in June to crush former WBA junior middleweight champion Alejandro Garcia in a single round.
Garcia was at one time considered a good rising prospect, until he was outhustled last June by a 39-year-old unbeaten, Troy Browning. Browning would then lose his next two bouts, to Delvin Rodriguez and Pawel Wolak, adding more insult to Garcia's defeat.
Both of Campas' recent losses were at middleweight, moving up from junior middleweight to make better money. Because he switches so often from 154 to 160 and then back to 154, he usually losses his ranking position. Garcia lost to Browning at junior middleweight, and then returned in June to stop Jose Medina in one-round, at 168-pounds. It's hard to believe he began his career at 126, but he was only 15-years-old when he turned pro. Campas-Garcia will probably take place at 160.
