British light heavyweight contender Anthony Yarde has suffered further tragedy as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Yarde disclosed that his grandmother has died from the COVID-19 illness, and her death comes only a few days after the passing of his father - also a direct result of the coronavirus.
The 28-year-old boxer has once again urged the public to stay at home and obey the restrictions being set on them in terms of social distancing.
"It's serious. People are still going out when they don't need to. I know there's a lot of opinions about Covid-19 and I have mine but I just know opinions ain't worth risking your life and others. Just stay home," Yarde stated.
The boxer, who last year came close to stopping Sergey Kovalev in their WBO world title fight in Russia, was scheduled to continue his path in bouncing back from that defeat, with a bout set down against Lyndon Arthur on April 11. The event, headlined by the heavyweight bash between Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce, has been pushed back to July 11.
"We are extremely sad to learn that Anthony Yarde has now lost his Nan to the Coronavirus. We can't begin to imagine what Anthony and his family are going through and our sincere condolences go out to them. Please listen to his heartfelt personal plea, stay at home to save lives," stated Yarde's promoter, Frank Warren.
