WBC FecarBox Champion Xavier “X-Man” Tolliver “20-4 13 KO’s” responded to the announcement that Golden Boy Promotions has inked Argentinean Walter Matthysee  ‘”23-0 22 KO’s” five days before the planned HBO Latino Boxeo De Oro Dec. 8th. When asked about if he had a  contract to fight Matthysee ,  Tolliver showed his displeasure immediately.

“ I have an unsigned contract to fight Walter Matthysee not in San Diego, CA. but in Tucson , Arizona.

Then they switched it to New Mexico. It was supposed to be at the Diamond Casino , now it’s in De La Hoya’s backyard. I knew something was fishy when  I wasn't scheduled on any of the Internet sites to fight in New Mexico or in Arizona.  Of course the matchmaker didn't have the guts to tell me things were changing.  I haven't signed to fight in California I signed to fight in Arizona. “

When asked about whether it came as a surprise that De La Hoya had signed Matthysee “X-Man” continued to voice his annoyance.

“ It was a surprise but at the same time it wasn't because De La Hoya doesn't like to sign anyone besides Latino’s anyway.  On that note it wasn't a surprise. It was low that a week before the fight they sign him and change the venue several times. It wasn't a professional way to behave at all, I think it’s dirty and lowbrow, it shows the world exactly what is wrong with the game. At the end of the day though  Matthysee has to get in there and it will be just him and I. De La Hoya can sign this guy but he can't fight for him.”

Tolliver didn't  express any concern in  now having to take a decision from Walter in Golden Boy territory.

“ I’m not concerned at all, my thing is to go in there and give my best  effort and whatever happens from there happens. To many guys step up and fight a man with a record like Walter’s  and are not ready, I’m ready.  I’m going to lay everything on the line.  I will beat this guy who has built his record on the backs of his countrymen and has been extremely protected.  He hasn't fought anybody. He is in my country now and I have trained hard for this chance, ran many miles , sparred many rounds, done thousands of sit ups and pushup's.  I can fight, I can box and I can show him what street fights in Atlanta look like.  Whatever it takes to win this fight. It’s coming at Matthysee this week.  “

“ I’m going to bring it, and the advantage just turned in my favor because all the pressure just went on Matthysee. Now he has to worry whether he can win and keep that backing he just got.  It’s Golden Boy’s card but the bottom line is he now has to bring his A game.  His first time in America, fighting on a Golden Boy card, with a new contract and all, fighting a guy with almost two decades of boxing experience, and having just won my first title, he better be sweating bullets. When it’s all said and done we will see. They signed him thinking they have something because of his record. I’ve earned my record, nobody bought mine. I’m not worried at all about this guy.”

“Truthfully, I’m happy, I was already in a bad mood at the treatment I was getting from this company, now I can focus that anger at Golden Boy’s golden boy. Let’s see what happens when my hook lands on that chin and when I box the trunks off this guy. The fight films I saw , this guy has been fighting complete bums. When he gets a look at somebody that has the same hopes and dreams as he has,  let’s see how he adapts to me, I have some surprises in store for this bunch as well . Watch HBO Latino  on Thursday and see who deserves a contract.  I beat Guilty Boxing’s  Golden Boy to take a title now it’s Golden Boy’s turn to learn. The 0 will go.”
