Wright Fires Shaw, Nixes Taylor Fight

In a St Petersburg Times article penned by John Cotey, it was reported that the relationship between Winky Wright and promoter Gary Shaw has ended in divorce.

The stormy relationship between Wright and his promoter came to an end on Monday night after Wright fired Shaw just moments after Shaw was able to finalize a deal with promoter Lou DiBella for Jermain Taylor and Wright to meet in a June bout that was slated to take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, live on HBO.

"I don't know what happened. Jim (Wilkes, who is Wright's adviser) walked over to me and said Winky's not a go. He told me Winky didn't want to work with me anymore." said Shaw to the paper.

Apparently, following the entire blow-up with Shaw, Wilkes resigned from his position as Wright's adviser.

There have been some indications that Wright's departure from Shaw may stem from a backdoor meeting that took place on Monday between Wright, Winky Promotions partner Chris Lighty, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer and HBO. Neither Shaw or former Wright adviser Wilkes knew anything about the meeting.
