After six long years waiting for a title shot, Junior Witter (34-1-2) made this shot count as he won the WBC light welterweight title, unanimously outpointing DeMarcus Corley (31-5-1) over 12 rounds at Alexandra Palace in north London to claim the vacant title. The judges gave scores of 118-112, 117-111 and 116-114, all for Witter.

Witter, 32, redeems himself after dropping a decision to then IBF 140-pound champion Zab Judah six years ago. Witter started off fast by using his boxing skills to gain the early advantage, but Corley was not going to be denied and after three rounds he began to rally, that is until he rocked Corley with an uppercut in the fifth and sent him down, but Italian referee Massimo Barrovecchio ruled the knockdown a slip. Colrey was once again in trouble in the sixth, but was able to keep his composure.

After twelve, both men felt they won, and Corley said that he felt robbed by the decision, although most observers saw the fight as a clear win for Witter.
