After capturing his first major championship, by way of a points decision over DeMarcus Corley at Alexandra Palace on Friday night, the new WBC junior welterweight champion wants UK rival Ricky Hatton next. Witter tells Sportinglife that Hatton has ducked him for years, and is not willing to challenge fighters that can actually fight.
"We all know the gripe between me and Ricky Hatton and that is one of the fights I want. Ricky does not seem to want to fight anybody who can actually fight at the moment," Witter said.
Hatton could set up a unification bout with Witter, if he defeats IBF junior welterweight champion Juan Urango in January.
Witter promoter Mick Hennessy added that he knows the Hatton family very well and does not see problems making the fight.
"Junior has always wanted the Hatton fight and the question now is whether they want it. I know the Hattons very well and I don't see any problems in making the fight. Junior has beaten the top contender Lovemore N'Dou and now he has wiped the floor with Corley. It was an incredible performance and now I believe he can go on to beat Hatton in style," Hennessy said.
Hatton is only one the many options for Witter, Hennessy also revealed that there maybe a future hook-up with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, in order to line up some big fights for Witter in America.
"We already have a great working relationship with Golden Boy and the opportunities are really opening up for Junior, with a number of big fights already lined up over there."
