LONDON - Junior Witter successfully defended his WBC light-welterweight belt by stopping Mexican challenger Arturo Morua with a ninth-round TKO on Saturday.
Referee Tim Adams stopped the fight two minutes, 12 seconds into the ninth round.
Witter improved his record to 35-1-2 with 19 knockouts.
The 32-year-old Englishman dominated Morua, 28, with his left hook delivering tremendous shots to Morua's face from the fourth round.
A series of combinations knocked Morua into the ropes in the ninth, and though the Mexican was still in it after surviving a standing eight count, Witter ended it with another series of combos, finishing with a left uppercut in front of a near-capacity crowd of 2,500 at Alexandra Palace.
It was the same venue where Witter won the title with a unanimous decision over American fighter DeMarcus Corley on Sept. 15.
Morua fell to 24-8-1, with 13 KOs.
