Former NRL star Michael Witt will take on Warwick's Cain Buckland in his professional boxing debut on March 14 at the 'Smithy brings the big fights 9' card at Rumours International.
Buckland will also be making his professional debut but is surrounded by a champion team. He's trained by former accomplished fighter Peter Leisegang and managed by one of Australia's leading managers Steve Deller.
Deller's deeds are legendary in Australia, currently guiding the careers of many top pro's including Dennis Hogan and Jarrod Fletcher.
"As soon as I knew Cain was involved with Steve Deller, I immediately knew we were in for a tough night," Michael Witt's Trainer-Manager Brendon Smith said.
"With Peter Leisegang and Steve Deller I know Cain Buckland will be in perfect condition.
"Steve Deller is a real difference maker, an x factor, he's the equal of anyone in this country so the fact he's working with Cain means Michael needs to be at his absolute best to win.
Buckland has a background in MMA.
"I respect any man standing in the opposite corner," Michael Witt said.
"However my only concern is about myself and my preparation.
"I've just got to listen to Brendon and make sure I'm at my best on March 14.
"The rest will take care of itself.
Meanwhile former amateur star Brent Rice will take on Taree visitor Beau Callaghan for his professional debut on March 14.
Callaghan has had two fights in his career, both narrow losses and is confident of beating Rice.
"In any sport - you can't beat experience and Beau has the experience of fighting as a pro on two occasions while Brent hasn't," Rice's Manager Brendon Smith said.
"I think this is a good contest and a good test for Brent in his pro debut.
Rice is looking forward to the bout.
"It's exciting to have an opponent and now I know who will be in front of me," Brent Rice said.
"This is the opponent dad and Brendon believe is right for me and I leave everything up to them.
"My job is to keep training and preparing for fight night.
"I can't wait to step into the ring as a pro for the first time - it'll be a very proud moment.
