It appears that Winky Wright (51-4-1, 25 KOs) may finally get back in the ring, but not until next year. HBO is holding a January date for Wright, and the opponent he seems to want is IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs). Wright has not fought since last July's decision loss to Bernard Hopkins.

Wright told Dan Rafael that HBO wants him and Abraham to get in the ring against each other. The winner would certainly get a push by the network for a showdown with WBO/WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Abraham has to win his mandatory defense against Raul Marquez on October 4.

"Definitely, that is what we're talking about," Wright said. "That's what HBO wants. They want me and him to fight. That is cool. As long as I am getting paid. He's a champion, let's go fight, so I am cool with that. I want it. I want people to see me fight the best. I want to show Winky is still one of the best fighters out there. I'm going to go out beating a few of these dudes."

Chris Meyer of Sauerland Event [who promote Marquez] told Rafael that talks have taken place, but they want to see what happen with Pavlik's bout against Bernard Hopkins on October 18. Abraham's main goal at the moment is to land a unification bout with Pavlik.
