According to sources close to the situation, the rumored Winky Wright-Arthur Abraham fight is off. While originally slated for HBO on January 24, the source said that Abraham's camp formally turned down the bout a month ago.
It remains unclear why the bout fell apart. What lies ahead for Wright (51-4-1, 25 KOs) or Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs) is unknown as well.
There are reports that Abraham is interested in fighting Kelly Pavlik should he defeat Bernard Hopkins on October 18. However, Pavlik has expressed a desire to fight Joe Calzaghe if the Welshman defeats Roy Jones Jr. next month.
As for Wright, losing the Abraham bout continues a frustrating trend. The Floridian was originally considered as a potential candidate for Oscar De La Hoya and Pavlik, but both fights fell through. He has not fought since losing to Hopkins in July 2007.
