BoxingScene.com was informed that former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright is close to finalizing a promotional agreement with Top Rank. Wright is parting ways with Golden Boy Promotions. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is laying out a plan for Wright to be in position for a possible meeting with WBO/WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik by the end of the year.
Wright's first bout as a Top Rank fighter may come in a form of a headline bout on one of the upcoming "Top Rank Live" events that are televised on Fox Sports. If everything goes as planned, Wright would then appear on the Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman undercard on June 12 in New York's Madison Square Garden. The third fight of the year could come against Pavlik.
"I've spoken with Winky about having him appear on one of our Fox shows. If everything goes well, then we'll bring him back on the Cotto-Foreman show in New York. And if everything goes well in Kelly Pavlik's fight with Sergio Martinez, then we might see Wright fight Pavlik at the end of the year," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
