Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25KOs) is searching for answers. Two weeks ago, Wright appeared to be on the verge of finalizing a deal to fight up and coming middleweight contender Peter Quillin (26-0, 20KOs) on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto pay-per-view undercard on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. During the last few days, the fight fell through without a definitive reason provided.

"I really don't know what happened. I don't what it is. I heard the fight was on and then like everybody else I heard the fight was off," Wright told BoxingScene.com. "It's just how it is. With me something always comes up. We've never turned down any fight. I have to give [Quillin] props for taking it, an undefeated kid, because a lot of other people wouldn't."

Wright, 40-years-old and inactive since a decision loss to Paul Williams in April of 2009, denies the circulating rumors that there were licensing issues with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

"I talked to [NSAC Executive Director] Keith [Kizer] and he told me that I had to come in and do every test that anyone else would have to do. He was cool. He wanted me to come back and he wanted to see me fight. For them to say that the commission wouldn't clear me, they didn't even see me yet. How are they not going to clear me if they didn't see me yet?. He couldn't tell me that I would be cleared, but he definitely didn't tell me that I wouldn't be cleared," Wright said.

Wright is not going to wait around much longer. He plans to take a fight in the near future.

"If something don't pop off soon, we're going to do our own thing and keep it moving. I'm trying to be responsible and trying to get back on the networks so the fans can see me. If that don't happen, then we're going to have to do it another way.  But we are going to do it, one way or another," Wright said.
