The Uganda-born Dutchman Willy Kyakonye is to defend his lightly regarded WBF heavyweight title against Germany’s Renke Wittke on October 20 at the annual Ben Bril Memorial in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Ben Bril was from Amsterdam. He competed in the 1928 Olympics, aged 15, in his home city, boycotted the 1936 Games in Berlin, Germany, and later became a respected referee and judge. He died aged 91 in 2003; the Ben Bril Memorial has since come to be recognised as the biggest professional boxing event in the Netherlands.
Kyakonye-Wittke has been scheduled for Amsterdam’s Theatre Carre.
Kyakonye, 31 years old and 11-0 (10 KOs), won the vacant title in his past fight when stopping Wilmer Vasquez in a round in May. Wittke, also 31, is 6-0 (6 KOs) and also won inside a round in May, against Deivis Casseres.
