Yesterday, BoxingScene.com's Mike Coppinger reported that Lamar Russ (14-0) had agreed to face Matthew Macklin on December 7th as part of a HBO televised tripleheader. Macklin originally was scheduled to face Willie Nelson who was forced to withdraw from the fight because of an elbow injury.

BoxingScene.com was advised by Jack Loew, assistant trainer and son of Nelson's head trainer Jack Loew, that Nelson will undergo surgery on November 26th and should be able to return to action in the spring.

"Willie has surgery scheduled for  November 26th. He'll need to be off for about 8 weeks. He has a piece of floating cartilage/bone which is causing the damage. We hope to have him back in the ring the end of March or beginning of April," Loew stated.
