Willie Limond’s world title aspirations could take a step in the right direction on March 19.
Limond (38-4, 10 KOs) will fight Frenchman Christopher Sebire (24-9, 9 KOs) for the vacant WBC International light welterweight title at the Bellahouston Sports Complex.
Promoted by Lock Stock Promotions, in what will be their biggest show to date, the card will also feature unbeaten lightweight Lewis Ritson (7-0, 2 KOs) fighting for the WBC World Youth title with his opponent still to be announced.
Limond will warm up for his first title fight, since his last bout in June 2014, with a bout on January 30 at the Marriot Hotel, Glasgow on another Lock Stock Promotion. Limond has been out of action for nearly 18 months since beating Curtis Woodhouse for the British and Commonwealth light welterweight titles.
Sebire, 30, is no stranger to British shores having fought six times in the UK, most recently in 2014 when losing points decisions to Chris Jenkins and Bradley Skeete respectively.
Lewis Ritson’s trainer Billy Nelson, one of the men behind the recently founded promotional outfit alongside Limond, told Boxing Scene: “We’re grabbing the bull by the horns and making our own destiny.”
The March 19, seen as a massive shot in the arm for Scottish boxing, will also feature unbeaten Mexican light welterweight Oliver Quintana (10-0, 7 KOs) – dubbed as the new Marco Antonio Barrera. The show will also feature Quintana’s countryman Paul Valenzuela Jr, a super middleweight with a record of (9-2, 6 KOs).
Special guest for the evening will be former world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito who will fly over to Scotland with his wife to attend the event. The 37-year-old Mexican, known for his two mega-fights with Miguel Cotto amongst others, is scheduled to be in action two week before as part of his comeback having been away from the ring for over four years.
Elsewhere on the card there will be national bragging rights at stake when Paisley’s Craig Kelly takes on Kirkintilloch’s Ally Black in a Scottish title dust-up. There will also be an outing for light middleweight Kieran Smith in his second professional contest with other fights still to be announced.
Tickets are available from the Scottish boxers on the show and are priced at £45 and £100 (VIP) or from Main Events Sports Shop 01236 766304.
