Promoter Dan Goossen, speaking with El Nuevo Dia, said the rematch between Paul "The Punisher" Williams and WBO welterweight champion Carlos Quintana has a chance of landing in Puerto Rico. Since Quintana, a big underdog, upset Williams for the title on February 9, he's become a hero in the country. Williams has spent a lot of time as of late in Puerto Rico for his training camps.

Goossen told the paper that Quintana will likely make an optional defense before facing Williams in either June or July. Williams suffered cuts above both eyes during the Quintana bout and should be fully healed and ready to go by June. Quintana had tried to make a mandatory defense of his title, but was unable to secure any of the top challengers. Antonio Magarito, the WBO mandatory, signed to fight IBF champion Kermit Cintron on April 12. Shane Mosley, the second in line, is fighting Zab Judah in May. British fighter Michael Jennings was number three in the WBO's rankings, but the sanctioning body wants him to take an eliminator to qualify him for the shot. Williams is the fourth ranked challenger.

"The intention is to stage the fight between June and July," Goossen said. "And the possibility exists that we do it in Puerto Rico. Paul wants revenge. As all true champions, he wants to come back and erase the stain of that loss. Quintana fought an exceptional fight, a fight that nobody expected. He and his trainer had a brilliant strategy that was executed to perfection.  Now Paul is going to have to make adjustments."

Williams, a towering welterweight at 6'2, is not planning to move in weight until at least another 2-3 fights, according to trainer George Peterson.
